*WOW!!!!!!!*

Saturday InDesign was soooooooooo much fun!!!!

Close your eyes and imagine this:

HAWORTH Showroom:

2 Daytona Racing Cars
1 Pinball Machine
Ping-pong on the other side
Chocolate Fountain with Strawberries and Marshmallows
Drinks (Alcholic and non-alcoholic)
Nibblies -cakes and sandwiches
Lollies everywhere!
Funky wallpaper and funky furniture
Flat screens everywhere!

that's what it was like... our showroom....


BUT >>>>> I decided to run away and check out the other showrooms and also check out our direct competitors like Steelcase, Formway, Interlink, Maxton Fox (the list goes on and on...)

Me and Yoon hopped on the Saturday InDesign bus (which I must say was a GREAT service!) and started our adventure...


I must say... I'm glad that I went around with Yoon... He's really admirable... where he's at.. how he got there... I would really LOVE to be working with him... as my mentor...
He graduated from Industrial Design in Melbourne... then went to Malaysia to work... did some consulting work here and there and then got scouted to work for Haworth in IDEATION. He's the designer of BAMBOO. And seeing his presentation on BAMBOO it was really impressive... a great design! He's really into design and I could see it when we had a presentation from a 3rd party supplier.... he was talking about undercuts, tolerances, and he even gave them a design suggestion in the end!!! He's very inspiring to be around!

So I got heaps of advice from him.... advice from a "designer" and also it was fun looking at what competition was out there with him... cuz we were both undercover (spying on our competition!) and analysing everything.... it's fun hanging around designer friends esp if he's in the same industry as moi~!

He's really helped me think positively about our company and also gave me hope... Yoon said that I should ask to be trained properly in Shanghai.. where our baby BAMBOO was born.. when I heard that I was so happy! I told him that the chances of that would be very unlikely cuz it would cost too much plus I cant afford to take time off from my office... you know what he said? "I'll advise Brett to send you to Shanghai to get training" He's the man!!!! Yoon's the man!!!

Can't wait to talk to my boss about it!

The showrooms were mad... every showroom had it's own unique atmosphere to it! Got to meet people in the industry and ate like homer simpson on an endless buffet line!!! every showroom had great food and drinks! I remember one showroom in surry hills had thai red curry chicken in cute chinese take-away boxes and dumplings served in those ceramic chinese spoons! Another had Max Brenner chocolates.... it was just food heaven!

But my feet were aching like anything!!!! Walking around all day from showroom to showroom.... occassionally catching a cab....

Then at night we had a VIP party at ARENA FOX STUDIOS. THAT was fun! Free food and drinks (again!) and mingling with industry people... didnt stay long cuz I was buggered by then... caught a cab home and snuggled into bed by 12!

*ahhhhh~~~ * what a fun day it was.... filled with good design... good food... good company... just PERFECT!!!!!


I'm loving being in design field! Now I know what drives me to work hard at work.... and also what satisfaction I get from being in this industry! It's just so interesting and lots to learn (and lots of people to learn from!)

Tomorrow we are having an industry night where Jeremiah Lee from HAWORTH US will be coming in and talking to DIA members... should be interesting... but can't make it... i'll be making a world-round trip to our veneer supplier to talk about some storage designs... then a site check on the other side of the world -BELLA VISTA!!!! Talk about a road trip!!! hehhee...
